When developing a site with complex terrain, it is recommended to construct a concrete retaining wall. Such structures prevent soil collapse, provide soil retention, strengthen slopes, and protect the area from landslides, collapse, and subsidence. Such structures are used in both private and industrial construction, as well as in the construction of roads, parks, and other facilities. The cost of the work is determined by the scope and complexity of the project, taking into account the price per cubic meter of concrete.

Main types and purposes of retaining walls

Such structures can be constructed from a variety of materials, and their format is selected depending on site conditions, soil characteristics, and topography.

Types of retaining walls include:

  • monolithic reinforced concrete walls – used more often for heavy loads on steep slopes;
  • stone and brick retaining walls, including block retaining walls – installed in private gardens and small areas;
  • gabion systems – made of metal mesh filled with stones;
  • wooden walls – used in small areas.

If you need to build a truly durable and reliable wall, concrete is the best choice.

Why do you need a concrete retaining wall?

The advantages of such structures are numerous. Among the most significant are the following:

  • Erosion prevention and soil stabilization. Concrete walls perfectly maintain the soil surface in place, preventing movement and erosion.
  • A concrete retaining wall will keep the soil level, preventing shifting and sloping.
  • Creativity. A concrete wall can serve many different functions with the right design approach. It can be placed on a patio at different soil levels, surrounding flower beds, a fountain, and other exterior design elements.
  • Lack of special maintenance. Such walls virtually never wear out and last a very long time. Therefore, the user does not need to worry about replacing concrete sections, as is the case with other types of materials.
  • Rainfall management. Concrete walls are ideal for regions with high rainfall. They help reduce the speed of runoff or the amount of water near the house.

Furthermore, retaining walls with a concrete foundation visually enlarge the space. Used as a design element in a courtyard, they can serve as a support for plants and flowers when creating a multi-level garden or flower bed.

Features of the construction of a retaining wall made of concrete

The structure is constructed from monolithic concrete, rubble concrete, or reinforced concrete. Due to the high strength of the material, the wall itself can be thin. After calculating the retaining wall, the work process consists of the following:

  • Installing the formwork for the wall. This is made from boards, panels, or other materials. When installing the formwork, it is essential to install strong supports that can support the weight of the concrete. Plywood, roofing felt, or hardboard are attached to the face of the reinforced concrete structure to ensure the leveling of the face of the structure.
  • Laying the reinforcement: steel mesh or metal rods are used to reinforce the wall, secured together to create a framework.
  • Waterproofing the structure: materials that provide moisture protection are used;
  • Installing drainage along the retaining wall: groundwater drainage pipes are installed 50 mm above ground level at intervals of 1 meter.

Next, concrete is poured into the form. A rubble concrete wall does not require concrete reinforcement. To construct it, the bottom row is laid with large stones in the formwork, filling the voids with crushed stone. After this, a thin layer of M300 concrete is poured. Next, the masonry is laid in rows, grouted.

Concrete retaining wall installation is included in the services offered by the construction company RСС ALBA. By ordering this service, the client can expect the foundation to be built for the wall, as well as a phased implementation of the process, with the project being delivered as a turnkey construction project.
